this heart broken

the story of Zoe Marie

This is the journey through our daughter’s Congenital Heart Defect and eventual heart transplant. When you “decide” to go down the transplant route as it is called there are certain things you find out after you sign on the dotted line.

Ironic, as a person with a software development background, the “initial post” of wordpress is setup as “Hello World”, which we use as a trivial starting point with any new language.

How fitting, as my Zoe Marie was born today, and this blog was created to spread information about her life, my thoughts on it, and lessons learned through her existence.

The trouble is, Zoe has never conformed to the status quo, as she said (in the womb), “perfect heart be damned!”, and started working on an imperfect heart (I’ll write more about this another time).  With her imperfect heart, we decided the best option for survival was a scheduled c-section on 7/3/2006.  To this she couldn’t even comply, as she decided to start contractions very early on Sunday morning.  So, Jenny and I ended up at UW Medical one day early, violating the plan we had… I can tell she’s going to be precoscious already.

Long story short, Zoe Marie was born weighing 6 lbs 10 oz.  w/good vitals considering she has a bad case of CHD.

I need to sleep, I’ll write more later tonight.
